Pizza history

The history of pizza goes back to ancient times, about the 1 century BC, when a Latin poet made a reference to a bread that sounded like the description of a pizza. It's exact origin is still unknown, it is believed that either ancient Greece or Italy is the place where the recipe was first discovered. Many people lean towards Italy and this is why the majority of people consider pizza as being a traditional Italian dish. The pizza recipe started to travel around the world along with peoples migration and has nowadays become known worldwide. Pizza restaurants can be found in every corner of the world as this delicious bread has enchanted everyone through it's incredibly flavored taste.

Pizza recipe

There are a variety of pizza recipes developed and each one seems to work great. Choose to experiment with different recipes to find the one that you like best. The pizza dough as well as the topping of the pizzas can differ depending on preference.

To create the pizza dough you will need to mix:

  • 10 oz flour

  • 6 oz milk

  • 4 tablespoons sunflower or olive oil

  • 0.5 oz active dry yeast

  • a pinch of salt

  • For the topping you can use:

  • 1 can of tomato sauce to cover the dough

  • 1 or 2 cups or shredded Mozzarella

  • a few sprinkles of oregano

  • a pinch of salt

  • pressed bacon or salami

  • 1 can of sliced mushrooms

  • 1 can of sweet corn

  • You can also add your favorite ingredients to craete your personalized pizza.

    Preparation steps

    To prepare the pizza dough one must mix all the ingredients and start kneading the ingredients using your clean hands. Dissolve the yeast into the milk to ensure the yeast spreads throughout the dough as it will help the dough rise. This is a procedure which should take about 5 minutes until the dough reaches a soft uniform consistency. Eliminate all the gas bubbles that might get caught in the dough and form a ball using the dough to allow it to grow nicely. Allow the dough to sit at room temperature for about 2 hours. This way your dough will rise beautifully and will be ready for preparation. Take the dough and start spreading it using a rolling pin into the desired shape to fit your tray. Spay the tray with pan spray so the dough will not stick to the tray. The dough should not be too thick, the thinner the dough the thinner crust will turn out. Apply the tomato sauce over the dough, spread some oregano or basil over it and start layering the bacon. Spread the mushrooms, sweet corn and Mozzarella over the bacon and you are ready to put the tray in the oven. The oven temperature should be around 425ยบ F so the dough will be cooked relatively quickly. About 10 or 15 minutes should be sufficient for the pizza dough to cook right. Set the tray on the highest level inside the oven so the dough will not burn before it cooks.
    The sides of the pizza dough can help you check if the pizza dough has cooked properly. They should have a golden brown coloration, so when this coloration is achieved the pizza is ready to be taken out of the oven.
