Homemade Breakfast Cereals
Everyone knows that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Breakfast gives all the necessary energy that your body needs in order to start off your day in a positive tone. For a healthy breakfast we should eat proteins (eggs, meat, dairy) and fibers (fruits and vegetables, whole grains). And what better way than starting your day with a bowl of healthy homemade breakfast cereals?
Rich in carbohydrates, cereals provide 37% of the daily recommended energy intake and they are the most important source of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6 and iron. Because they are rich in essential minerals, your body is ready to face all daily problems.
There are plenty of healthy cereal recipes using oats, wheat germs or rice mixed with dairy products and fruits. So, you have no reason to skip breakfast.
Ingredients : 250 ml milk, 40 g oats, 2 tbsp chocolate chips, 1-2 tbsp honey.
Directions : In a saucepan place the milk and the porridge oats.
Bring it to boil. Simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour the mix into a bowl. Sprinkle on the chocolate chips and drizzle with honey.
Ingredients : 100 ml semi-skimmed milk, 70 g oats, 10 g white sugar, 20 g raisins, 1/3 banana, 1 lemon, 1 fresh vanilla bean.
Directions : Heat up the semi-skimmed milk. Bring it to boil and add oats and a bit of vanilla and allow to cook for 5 minutes. Add white sugar. Cut 1/3 banana in slices.
Add raisins, sliced banana and a bit of lemon juice. Reduce the heat until the mix becomes ticker. Keep stirring the porridge to make sure that it does not stick around the edges of the pan.
Enjoy it while still hot!
Ingredients : 500 g oatmeal, 100 g almond flakes, 50 g raisins, 50 g flaked coconut, 1 cup dried fruits (cranberries, cherries, apricots, dates, figs), 1 tbsp sunflower oil, 100 ml honey, 50 g maple syrup.
Directions : In a large bowl combine oatmeal, almond flakes, raisins, flaked coconut and dried fruits. In a saucepan warm the oil, honey and maple syrup (don't bring it to boil). Carefully pour the liquid over the oat mixture and stir well. Preheat the oven and spread granola in a baking pan. Bake until golden brown.
Transfer granola-filled pan to a rack and cool completely. Seal granola in an airtight jar. It can be stored for 2 weeks.
Enjoy it with milk, fresh fruits, yogurt or fruit sauce.
Banana oatmeal bars
Ingredients : 2 cups oatmeal, 1 cup shredded coconut, 2 ripe bananas (mashed), sunflower oil, 1/2 cup raisins, 1/4 cup nuts, dried fruits or chocolate, brown sugar (optional), vanilla (optional).
Directions : Combine oats with coconut and nuts/dried fruits/chocolate. Add bananas and oil and mix. Spread batter evenly into prepared baking dish. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Remove pan from oven and cool and cut into bars or squares.
Oatmeal with cottage cheese and red fruits
Ingredients : 200 g cottage cheese with 20% fat, 40 g oatmeal, 15 g white sugar, 50 g strawberries, 50 g raspberries.
Directions : Chop strawberries into quarters and raspberries in two. Mix the fruits with cottage cheese, oatmeal and sugar. Complete everything with red fruits.
